Game 1 - WLC @ South Lyon Final Score: WLC-8 South Lyon-45
The young vikings opened up their high school careers off with a difficult loss at the hands of a very good and prepared South Lyon squad. Quarterbacking the freshmen Vikings in their first game was Zach Leimbach who ran for over 100 yards in the game and set up the first score of the game as Zack "Flash" Taylor scored from 3 yards out. Taylor also scored the immediate 2 pt conversion that followed on a fake extra point. The freshmen defense was led by linebackers Adam Kondrat, David Eisenberg, and Carlos Ortiz. Joey Bowen provided excellent run support from the secondary. Overall, the first game of the season proved to be a difficult challenge for the young Vikings who definitely suffered from not having any prior competitions before this game. The young Vikings will host Wayne Memorial in their second game of the year next Wednesday at The Fortress. 0-1 Up Next: Novi
Game 2 - WLC @ Novi Final Score: WLC-12 Novi-42
In the second game of the season the freshmen Vikings made drastic improvements. Unfortunatly, it was not enough to defeat the talented Novi Squad. Curtis Booth, Brandt Slewa, Ildo Luca, and Zach Leimbach led a strong defensive effort in the first half as the scored was 7-0 throughout the entire 1st half until the final seconds ticked away as Novi put another score on the board to head into halftime with a 14-0 lead. Injuries and mental errors were the cause of a second half collapse was Novi increased their lead to 28-0 and returned two kickoff returns back for touchdowns late in the 4th quarter. Zach Leimbach quarterbacked his second straight game and the offensive line improved drastically opening up wholes for both Adam Kondrat and Zack "Flash" Taylor. Kondrat punished defenders the entire game as he always settled to land forward upon being tackled. Both Kondrat and Flash finished the game with over 100 yards of rushing and Flash scored twice late in the 4th quarter with two runs that were over 60 yards each. The Vikings will need to continue to improve and come together as a team in the coming weeks. 0-2 Up Next: Waterford Kettering Game 3 - WLC vs Waterford Kettering Final Score: WLC-31 Kettering-0
The third game of the season turned out to be a different outcome for our Freshmen Vikings. The offense started out fast by scoring 3 touchdowns in the first half and shutting down the Kettering offense. Scoring in the first half for the Vikings was Zach Leimbach and Adam Kondrat who both tallied over 100 yards rushing in the game. Leimbach added another pair of touchdowns to finish the game with three TD's. Kondrat scored 2 touchdowns and Zack "Flash" Taylor also finished the game with over 100 yards rushing. The offensive line dominated the Kettering front and proved to be too much to handle as they have slowly but surely grasped the offense and have become more comfortable playing with one another. Brandt Slewa had a fantastic overall game on defense and providing a necessary spark to the special teams. Also leading the defense was linebacker David Eisenberg who recovered two fumbles and made countless tackles. The defensive line was consistently in the Kettering backfield disrupting plays and freeing up our linebackers to make great tackles. It is exciting to see the young boys come together and understand the teamwork that is necessary to succeed in football at the high school level. 1-2 (1-0 Division) Up Next: White Lake Lakeland Game 4 - WLC @ Lakeland Final Score: WLC-28 Lakeland-22
The young Vikings came off to a fast start in their fourth game of the year with Zack "Flash" Taylor scoring on the opening 65 yd drive with a handoff behind the right side. The Eagles responded back on their opening drive setting the score at 6-6 with only a few minutes left in the first quarter. The Vikings scored on both of their next two possessions with long, time-consuming drives that were capped off by two Zach Leimbach touchdowns (3 yds, 64 yds). The offensive line continued to open holes and block downfield passing the Viking offense with just over 320 yds. Taylor, Pontious, Leimbach, Kondrat, and Heidloff carried the Viking offense with big plays after big plays in their running, passing, receiving, and most importantly, blocking. The defense held its own against a tough opponent allowing 22 points. Leading the way for the defense was inside linebacker David Eisenberg. The defensive backfield had a great game as Keith Branner, James Pontious, Ross Heidloff, and newcomer Zach Percha played outstanding. The defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage for most of the game but will need to play more consistently in the future. The freshmen Vikings are 2-0 in the division and look to continue their winning ways next week against Waterford Mott. 2-2 (2-0 Division) Up Next: Waterford Mott Game 5 - WLC @ Waterford Mott Final Score: WLC-14 Mott-6
The fifth game of the season extended the current Viking win streak to 3 games. It did not come easy as the Mott Corsairs proved to be a very resiliant team and we let complacency settle our ambitions. The opening drive proved to be too much for even the officials to handle as the quickly blew the play dead while Zach Leimback was cruising untouched into the endzone. That play call proved to be the storyline for most of the game as mental mistakes and complacency occupied our young minds. The Vikings went into halftime tied 6-6. The second half showed a more dominant team as we realized that while our complacency was taking over how we played, opportunity and a belief in winning was taking over for the Freshman Corsairs. With that understanding, the offensive line dominated as the Vikings scored during the fourth quarter. The defense was led by linebackers David Eisenberg and Adam Kondrat. The defensive line controlled the Mott rushing attack as the Vikings held off the Corsairs to a tune of 14-6. The team will have to focus much harder as the Northern Knight visit the Viking Fortress next week. 3-2 (3-0 Division) Up Next: Walled Lake Northern Knights Game 6 - WLC vs Walled Lake Northern Final Score: WLC-28 WLN-28
The most anticipated game of the year to this point proved to be more exciting than imagined. Although many members from both teams were quite familiar with one another, there were no friends today except the ones who wore the same colored uniforms. The contest was back and forth the entire game with Central scoring first on a 55 yard touchdown pass from Leimbach to Jimmy Pontious. The Knights scored quickly afterwards with a 50 yard swing pass to their tailback. The Vikings punched back with another Pontious touchdown - this time a 20 yd run. Again, the Knights scored with a 60 yard swing pass to their taiback. The Vikings controlled the clock just before halftime and scored on a touchdown pass from Leimbach to McCaffery with 2.4 seconds left on the clock. The resiliant Knight would not go away as they returned kickoff back for a touchdown just before the half as time ran out to take a 22-20 lead. The second half started off with the knight scoring again on a touchdown run. The Vikings then put together a 98 yard drive that resulted in a 14 yard touchdown run by Adam "Slash" Kondrat who tallied over 130 yards on the ground. The two point conversion by Leimbach tied the game at 28-28 and put Zach Leimbach with over 120 yards rushing in the game. A few more opportunities slipped by with turnovers and poor execution and the time ran out resulting in a tie between the two rivals. The Freshmen City Championship and Division title will be decided next week at Western High School as the young Vikings have their eyes set on staying undefeated in the division. 3-2-1 (3-0-1 Division) Up Next: Walled Lake Western Warriors
Game 7 - WLC @ WLW Final Score: WLC-34 WLW-24
The seventh game of the season against the Vikings greatest rival - Walled Lake Western, proved to be an exciting offensive showdown. The Vikings came into the game confident in their game plan as they knew the Division and City Championship could be captured on this sunny Saturday afternoon. The Vikings started off fast and were led by Quarterback Zach Leimbach who scored 4 total touchdowns - three rushing and 1 passing. Jimmy Pontious continues to impress with his second consecutive game with two touchdowns - 1 rushing and 1 receiving. The Warriors were relentless in the second half as they answered all of our scores with touchdowns of their own. Zach Leimbach finished with over 100 yards passing and over 150 yards rushing. The defense played fantastic in the first half as they held the Warrior offense to only 8 points. The defense was led by linebacker Adam Kondrat who also paced the Viking offense by rushing for over 100 yards. Ildo Luca, Brandt Slewa, Charles Sovel, and David Eisenberg controlled the line of scrimmage and helped secure the victory for the young Vikings. This victory not only wins the Division Championship and City Championship but also extends the Vikings win streak to 4 games!!
Celebration is necessary after a victory like this one but the young Vikings must stay focused and poised as they will compete against a very big, strong, and physical Pinckney team. 4-2-1 (4-0-1 Division) DIVISION CHAMPS/CITY CHAMPS!! Up Next: Pinckney Pirates Game 8 - WLC vs Pinckney Final Score: WLC-20 Pinckney-30
The eighth game of the season proved to be a difficult one as the freshman lost their first game since week two. It was a nice streak that we had going but a very strong and fast Pinckney team capitalized on our errors and escaped the Fortress with a victory giving the young Vikings their first home loss of the season. Hopefully, the bitter taste in their mouths will prevent future losses, particularly home losses. It was a while since we felt what a loss feels like and that is something that the boys can be very proud of. It is quite an accomplishment to go on a five game winning streak after the first two weeks where many teams would have crumbled and thrown in the towel on the season. Zach Leimbach continues to be an unstoppable force behind our strong offensive line as he ran for two touchdowns and threw another to Kevin McCaffery. Leimbach accounted for over 150 yards rushing and over 100 yards in passing while running Adam Kondrat punished Pirate defenders over and over again. The pirate defense was on their heels the entire game and our own mistakes proved to be the determining factor in our loss. Our defense had a difficult time stopping the tricky Pirate offense. The defense was led by linebackers Brandt Slewa, Carlos Ortiz, Adam Kondrat, and David Eisenberg. The defensive line played well being led by ends Charles Sovel and Austin Kallabat and interior lineman, Ildo Luca and Andrew Goor. Aside from the loss, it was our best special teams day of the year as our new kicker, Andrew Goor, proved to be a very strong component of those teams consistently pinning the Pirare Offense inside their own 20 yard line. It was the first time all year that we were able to pin the opposing offense inside the 20 yard line and Andrew did it three times in this game! 4-3-1 (4-0-1 Division) Impress Yourself.
